Club Assist Celebrates 30 Years in Business

This year, Club Assist proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary as the preferred supplier of automotive batteries for motoring clubs worldwide.

In a small, family-owned auto repair shop in Melbourne, Australia, brothers Stuart and Brett Davies noticed that cars were constantly towed to their repair shop for a new battery.

After assessing 18 months of breakdown reports by the Royal Automotive Club of Victoria (RACV), the Davies brothers found that 40 percent of breakdowns were battery related, with 16 percent requiring a new battery. After presenting their findings, RACV seized the opportunity to add mobile battery service to their offerings, and Club Assist was born. Thirty years later, Club Assist provides 12-volt car batteries, roadside tools and technology, marketing, training, and business development services to motoring Clubs throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

In 2001, Club Assist joined forces with AAA and CAA in North America as the Preferred Supplier for the Mobile Battery Service Program. This partnership helps Clubs in the U.S. and Canada grow their battery programs to better serve millions of AAA and CAA Members.

According to Bill Carmody, Founder and CEO of Inc. Magazine, 96% of businesses fail within ten years. So, if only four out of 100 companies reach the 10-year mark, what is the secret to long-term success? “Club Assist’s longevity in the battery service industry is based on one simple concept – our business is to grow yours,” said John Tutt, President and CEO of Club Assist North America. “Our mission is to ensure the continued growth and success of our Club partners.”

Over the past 30 years, Club Assist has grown from the dream of two Australian brothers with just one battery service van, to a global company offering premium 12-volt batteries, dedicated logistics support, state-of-the-art roadside tools, technology solutions, customizable training, and targeted marketing campaigns to the most respected motoring Clubs in the world. “It’s a big achievement in any business to get to one decade, and we’ve gotten to three,” said Peter MacCuspie, Club Assist Chairman of the Board. “At the end of the day, it’s all about pride in servicing our Clubs.”
